They are among the most advanced areas of research in materials science and mechanical engineering. As confidence in these technologies grows, the fields of application will continue to expand.
In the near future, we can anticipate the emergence of suppliers of engineered materials, making them available in the same way as a 7075-T6 aluminum or a PEEK polymer today, i.e. defined not only by a composition but by a standard architecture and certified effective properties. Industrial engineers would then be able to select an architectured material to meet a customized specification, without having to develop the material anew.
