2. Loads. Shape and size of joints

There are various types of mechanical stress on joints, as shown in figure 4 .

In bonding operations, it is very important that the adhesive or glue works in shear, so as to distribute stress over as large an area as possible. Other types of stress (traction, peeling, cleavage) should be avoided or even avoided altogether.

Table 4 shows various configurations of parts and joints, with their advantages, disadvantages and restrictions on use.
