3. Dielectric strength

3.1 Definition

Also known as breakdown voltage or disruptive voltage, dielectric strength E is defined as the ratio between the voltage at which a loss of insulating properties occurs under specified test conditions and the distance between the two electrodes on either side of the polymer to which the voltage is applied:
