7.1 Marking plastics
We believe we've shown that plastics marking, by improving waste sorting, will encourage the development of circular recycling. In this type of recycling, in which waste is crushed and then extruded to make a new object identical to the previous one, the gains are very significant. It is no longer necessary to manufacture a new polymer, nor new additives, all of which (including the marker) are found in the recycled product in the same proportions as in the initial product. This reduces greenhouse gas emissions linked to the manufacture of the polymer matrix and its additives, and to the transportation of these products to their place of use.
