magnetization; magnetization

Magnetic moment per unit volume, resulting from the sum of microscopic atomic moments.

axe facile d'aimantation ; easy magnetisation axis

Axis in which magnetization tends to be in the absence of an external field, in order to minimize system energy. A thin film is said to be planar-magnetized if the easy axis is in the plane of the film, and perpendicular-magnetized if it is perpendicular to the plane of the film.

giant magnetoresistance; magnétorésistance géante

Effect occurring in ferromagnetic bilayers separated by a metal barrier, corresponding to an increase in stack resistance of the order of 10% when the magnetizations of the ferromagnetic layers change from parallel to antiparallel.
