What toxicological data is useful in SDSs? How should they be interpreted?
The following example (acetone cyanohydrin) shows the useful data to be collected in the SDS and the conclusions that can be drawn in brackets.
7.1 SDS Section 09 – Physical and chemical properties
Physical state (20°C): liquid.
Color: colorless - slightly yellow.
Odor: bitter almond (easily detectable).
Vapour pressure (20°C): 0.3 hPa (mbar) (very little evaporation, so no direct respiratory exposure assumed).
Vapour density / air: 2.9 / 1 (heavy vapour remaining at ground level).
