2. OECD Test No. 406: Skin sensitization, Maximization Test in Guinea Pigs (GPMT) by Magnusson and Kligman (M&K)

The method combines intradermal injections and epidermal application. It uses Freund's complete adjuvant and sodium lauryl sulfate to stimulate the sensitization induction reaction.

Induction is carried out using various processes.

2.1 Intradermal injections

Day 0 – treated group: three pairs of intradermal injections with a volume of 0.1 ml are administered in the shoulder area, which has been previously shaved, so that one injection from each pair is located on either side of the body's midline.

  • Injection 1: 1:1 (v/v) mixture of complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) and water or saline.
