3. Occupational health and safety standards

  • BS 8800: this is a guide to implementing a safety management system, published by the British Standards Institution. It is applicable to any company, whatever its size or the nature of its activity.

  • ISRS: this is a standard developed by DNV. It is based on the logic of loss control and developed on the basis of a DUPONT methodology. This standard is used by many chemical and oil companies.

  • ILO-OSH: this standard, published by the International Labour Organization, provides guidelines for the implementation of an occupational health and safety management system. It is the only international tripartite standard (validated by governments, employers and employee representatives), which gives it a high degree of legitimacy.

  • OSHAS 18001: this is the best-known standard....
