2. Avenues of progress

Given these constraints, the expected progress must be made on pollutant emissions, fuel consumption and associated GHG emissions, as well as on energy diversification, while maintaining the economic equations in a favorable light. It is also important to emphasize the important links between these parameters:

  • Reducing pollutant emissions generally leads to higher fuel consumption because of the engine tuning required and the weight of the systems involved;

  • Reducing consumption opens up opportunities for certain sectors, especially gas, improves the economic balance sheet and may therefore enable the introduction of new technological solutions on the vehicle.
