1.1 Transport capacity
Transport capacity is simply defined as the product of the maximum frequency of trains at peak times and the "normal" unit capacity of the trains.
In Paris, the norm is an average of 4 passengers per m 2 .
On a conventional metro line, trains move like a "merry-go-round". The frequency and composition of trains are the same at every point, and transport capacity is constant. This is not the case on a line operating with different services or train compositions (branches, intermediate termini, cutaway trains).
