2. Technological developments

The economic, competitive and environmental context surrounding the development, marketing and operation of more electric aircraft is driving a rapid evolution in technologies and uses in the aeronautical world.

Although this transition has been anticipated and supported by industry players, today's aircraft also tend to meet user requirements and evolving standards and regulations, implying a growing need for electrical power. Technological developments are helping to meet these new constraints.

One of the criteria summarizing the gains attributed to technological advances is fuel consumption per passenger per 100 km. The various aircraft ranges (regional, short-, medium- and long-haul) have thus benefited from a 28% reduction in fuel consumption over the last 35 years.
