14. Apparent backscatter and structures

The apparent backscatter coefficient $β_{p}^{a p p} (r)$ is widely used to present LRAN signal series and to identify important particle content structures such as: 1) the mixing layer at the top of the CLA (transition between CLA and free troposphere) and 2) the presence of several aerosol layers.
