Functional pump design involves finding the right combination of geometry and operating parameters to deliver an expected performance, often specified in terms of flow rate, overpressure and efficiency. The latter expresses the efficiency with which mechanical power is converted into usable hydraulic power, and depends on the pump architecture and its operating point:
