2. Mechanical stress
One of the main parameters governing the design of marine structures is their ability to withstand mechanical loading. The latter is highly complex and strongly conditioned by wave action, which must be taken into account in the design of ships, boats, offshore and coastal structures.
Given the sailing conditions they have to contend with, pleasure and racing boats, mainly made of composite materials, are subject to random loading that is highly dependent on the presence of waves.
