Taking environmental aspects into account in port projects must be done as early as possible, and requires knowledge that draws on many disciplines. This knowledge is often incomplete in the maritime field, and requires monitoring of impacts or the effectiveness of environmental measures over many years, with adaptation processes envisaged if the desired objectives are not achieved. The whole of such an approach cannot be effective without collaboration and exchange with the various stakeholders.
