3. Requirements of ISO/CEI 17025

3.1 Method validation

Validation is defined in ISO/CEI 17025: "Validation is the confirmation by examination and the provision of objective evidence that the particular requirements for a given intended application are fulfilled".

What can we learn from this definition? On the one hand, validation is a declaration of the method's ability to meet specific needs. It is therefore meaningless to talk about the validation of a method in absolute terms. On the other hand, it is possible to assess a method's performance by characterizing it. Classically, the performance of a method is defined by quantifying certain characteristics, such as :
