4. Use a predictive method: maximum periodicity method in accordance with FD X07-014

There are many approaches to defining periodicities. The OPPERET method seen above is one of them, and AFNOR's FD X07-014 proposes two others, but there are also international documents dealing with the subject (see Bibliography "Comparison of two guides to optimizing periodicities: FD X07-014 (11/2006) and ILAC-G24/OIML D 10 (2007) (E)").

Of all these methods, only one proposes a quasi-predictive approach based on the exploitation of previous calibration results. Unfortunately, it only applies to instruments with observable drift, most often "fixed-dimension" standards (shunts, gauge blocks, gauge masses, etc.) and limit gauges (in the mechanical industry). Indeed, the drift of "measuring" instruments is a complicated issue to grasp, and cannot be dealt with by the method presented here (see Bibliography "Evaluate and quantify the drift of a measure instrument"...
