2. What kind of accuracy are you looking for?

We can distinguish three measurement processes that meet three test conditions:

  • repeatability condition, to determine the accuracy of a measurement;

  • intermediate fidelity condition, to determine the accuracy of your method;

  • reproducibility, to determine the accuracy of your laboratory.

In repeatability conditions, the aim is to assess the accuracy of the measurement, free from environmental disturbance factors. In this measurement process, the true value, the measurand, the equipment, the environment and possibly the operator are all involved, but as subtly as possible. This is the process used in metrology (calibration laboratories) to verify equipment or assess the uncertainty of control equipment, for example.
