3. Fire prevention and forecasting resources
Fire safety regulations are based on a dual principle of prevention-forecasting: prevention of risk by preventing it from occurring in the first place or, at the very least, by doing everything in our power to limit it as much as possible; and forecasting of risk by anticipating that it may occur at some point in the future, and having the necessary elements in place to deal with it effectively.
To meet this objective, a number of measures need to be implemented. These means are of two types: passive means – firewalls (CF) or staircase enclosures – for example, i.e. any means likely to limit the spread of fire; and active means – detectors, fire extinguishers, smoke extraction systems – for example, i.e. any means likely to enable people to evacuate in the safest possible conditions.
