3.1 Nuclear reactions involved, sources of γ-photons
γ-photons can be used in analysis through two distinct nuclear interactions: photoexcitation and nuclear reaction.
Nuclear photoexcitation leads to a nucleus identical to the initial nucleus but in an excited state; it returns to the normal state by emitting one or more γ photons.
