Chromatographic techniques are widely used in the analysis of heritage objects. Gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry has been used at the Centre de Recherche sur la Conservation du Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle (CRC-MHN) to study the origin of the lacquer on a sword scabbard
