7. Conclusions
For security-related events, intentional threats can happen at almost any point in the system, and are hardly predictable. Therefore, the WSecP provides a valuable support to water operators for assessing existing and potential risks, preventing intentional contamination due to physical and/or cyber attacks, minimizing exposure time and concentration as well as improving detection probability and capabilities. The development of such capabilities can better support an effective response to emergency situations following a malicious event to drinking water infrastructure, which endangers the health of communities and businesses of interconnected services. In addition, the WSecP includes elements for the preparation of a recovery plan so that the drinking water system can return to normality as soon as possible.
