3. Scope and purpose of the standard
The IEC 60848 international standard is intended primarily for specifiers, designers, developers, operators and maintenance personnel who need to specify the behavior of a system (automatic machine control, safety component, etc.). This specification language is a privileged communication medium between designers and users of automated systems.
The GRAFCET specification language provides a functional description of the behavior of the sequential part of control systems.
The standard defines the symbols and rules necessary for the graphic representation of this language, as well as their interpretation. It does not provide methods for using the defined notions and concepts.
