3. Sustainable production systems

Current trends mean that production systems must be increasingly sustainable. To achieve this, we need to question our technical (particularly with regard to innovation), commercial, managerial and organizational systems [AG 500] . But before looking at how sustainability can be achieved (the how), it is essential to clarify the notion of sustainable development (the why and the what), which has evolved since its origins. This will enable us to clarify the ways in which conduct must evolve in order to become more sustainable.
