10. Developments

Current developments in the Profibus network are directed towards the automation field, to enable the network to handle safety functions, and towards the interconnection of Profibus networks to a backbone network using TCP-IP protocols.

10.1 ProfiSafe

Distributed, remote fieldbus automation is a major feature of modern automation. More and more sensor-actuator level information is being handled by fieldbuses.
