3. Improving learning to drive a wheelchair
Training and repeated practice in driving a FRE during occupational therapy sessions may be enough for some people to learn to control their FRE and drive it safely. For others, however, it may not be enough. Indeed, some people may need intensive training in specific situations, such as driving in urban areas or crowded places. However, such training environments raise safety issues, and learning-to-drive sessions are difficult to put into practice. The limits of learning to drive in occupational therapy sessions may lead some people to be refused a prescription for an ERF by their doctor, who may judge that the risk to their safety is too great in view of insufficient driving ability for safe use
