2.1 Embedded computing

Currently, the control mechanisms needed to maintain equilibrium require computing power not available on CPUs without acceleration mechanisms. Typically, Kawada Industries' HRP-4 robot uses a 1.6 GHz Pentium M which is not equipped with Intel TurboBoost technology, unlike the i7-2710QE processor found in PAL Robotics' REEM-C humanoid robot. This technology enables the CPU to accelerate the internal clock speed according to the calculations required and the internal temperature of the CPU. The board used in REEM-C was selected on the basis of the temperature measured during tests on the robot.
