1. Background and challenges
Cobots (collaborative robots) are a new generation of robots that have emerged in recent years, and are growing in popularity and use. Although cobots are also robots, they comply with the requirements of ISO TS 15066 (Robots and robotic devices – Collaborative robots), which is an extension of the ISO standard for conventional industrial robots (ISO 10218). The ISO TS 15066 standard for cobots sets out guidelines for their design and use, focusing on human safety through hazard analysis and risk assessment. It includes functions such as automatic stop monitoring, manual guidance, power and force limitation, and speed monitoring with virtual separation to ensure safe interaction between humans and robots. The standard also considers the risks associated with parts and tools handled by cobots.
