5. Fluorescent tracer family

The fluorescence technique is based on the collection of signals from fluorescent compounds (atoms or molecules) commonly referred to as "tracers" or "dopants". For many years, this technique has been used to characterize non-reactive fluids and control combustion phenomena. Knowledge of the concentration or temperature field in time and/or space of a combustion chamber prior to ignition or other self-ignition process is essential for controlling the entire combustion process, including de facto even aspects linked to pollutant emissions. A good knowledge of the tracer's spectral behavior is essential to provide local thermodynamic information (concentration or temperature) of the fluid under study. Tracers are typically selected on the basis of their fluorescence efficiency, in order to obtain sufficient signals for two- or three-dimensional visualization of the thermodynamic parameter(s)...
