1. Equipment classes

Image recording devices fall into three main classes:

  • the normal or classic class includes cameras with mechanical shutters (exposure times adjustable from several seconds to milliseconds) and film or video cameras (normal frame rates of 24 or 25 images per second, sometimes up to a hundred images per second);

  • the fast class corresponds to cameras with electro-optical shutters (exposure times between milliseconds and microseconds) and film or video cameras for frame rates of between a hundred and several tens of thousands of images per second;

  • the ultra-fast class for photography at exposure times of less than a microsecond, and cinematography at frame rates exceeding a hundred thousand frames per second.
