2. Capacitive sensors

2.1 Principle

A capacitive sensor is usually made with a flat electrode surrounded by a guard ring (figure 16 ). Together with the part to be measured, the electrode forms a flat capacitor. The distance d between this electrode and the surface of the part to be measured is determined by measuring the capacitance C of the capacitor. They are linked by the equation : C=εSd
