3. System for moving and determining the spatial coordinates of the probing system

3.1 General description

A CMM consists of a table on which the object to be measured rests, and moving parts whose movements are measured by rulers and angular encoders that determine the spatial coordinates of the probing system. There is great diversity in the arrangement of moving parts. The choice of moving parts depends essentially on the effective measurement volume, its accessibility, the accuracy required and the variability of the environment.
