Standard NF EN 473 on the certification of non-destructive testing operators provides definitions which we will adopt for the remainder of this article, for the sake of consistency of language.
Inspection method: application of a physical principle in a non-destructive test (here, an inspection) (e.g. ultrasonic inspection method).
Inspection technique: specific use of a non-destructive testing (here: inspection) method (e.g. transmission X-ray technique).
