3. Conclusion
Over the past four decades, driven by technological advances in certain telecommunications products as well as the needs of end users, Fiber Optic Sensor Networks (FOSN) have been progressively developed and refined in the most industrialized countries. Today, distributed measurement technologies—which are more complementary than competitive—offer numerous advantages stemming from the properties of optical fibers and optoelectronic measurement systems (metrological performance, multi-parameter detection, high-density multiplexing, remote measurements over very long distances, etc.), as well as a wider range of functionalities than traditional measurement approaches.
