6.1 Database market
While it may have been premature, ten years ago, to speak of an electronic information market, studies by the European Union, the OECD or commercial companies today demonstrate the economic importance of this sector. The European Union's Information Market Observatory published global sales figures for electronic information providers in 1992 (cf. doc R 120).
In France, a study of the professional electronic information market was carried out in 1995 by the GFII (cf. doc R 120). The French market is valued at around 4.7 billion francs. In Europe, the French market ranks second (17.3%), after the UK (28.8%) and ahead of Germany (14.6%) and Italy (8.7%)
