3. The contribution of meta-omics to soil quality assessment

3.1 Challenges and obstacles to making meta-omics an operational bio-indicator

Meta-omics" and associated recent technological developments have made it possible to better characterize the taxonomic diversity, metabolic potential, expression and activity of soil microbial communities. However, the use of a "meta-omics" approach in research does not make it a proven technique. It must first meet a certain number of criteria, such as :

  • its levels of repeatability, sensitivity and reproducibility, which must be known and controlled;

  • standardization of procedures associated with the use of this technique;

  • routine application.
