10. Conclusion
Combinatorial chemistry is a fast-growing field which is driving a number of developments in the search for new drugs. Production rates are increasing, necessitating the development of new robotic (miniaturization) and analytical (high-throughput characterization and purification) processes. The identification of an ever-increasing number of lead compounds means that we need to perfect the tools that enable us to rapidly rule out candidates that will fail in the clinical phases. Molecular modeling, profiling and toxicological studies are thus integrated into the process at a very early stage. This streamlining of the various stages of classical medicinal chemistry also generates a large mass of data, which will undoubtedly lead to a better understanding of biological mechanisms.
