2. Different mechanisms of enzymatic action
The simplest enzymatic reaction is catalyzed by a single enzyme
that converts one substrate into one product. The reaction is dependent
on the concentration of substrate and product over time, and on the
equilibrium to be reached.
The nature of the enzyme (with coenzyme or release of several
products) can generate irreversible reactions under given conditions.
In the case of a simple mechanism, the work of Michaelis and Menten,
followed by Briggs and Haldane, has made it possible to establish
the kinetics of the reaction transforming one substrate into one product
