Escalator
An escalator, also known as a moving staircase or escalator, is a conveyor-elevator adapted to the vertical transport of people between two levels of a structure, consisting of a staircase whose moving steps are mechanically driven while remaining permanently in a horizontal plane.
The escalator starts off on a horizontal plane, both up and down, to stabilize passengers. It then curves at an angle of 30° or 35° for the main run, and curves down to the horizontal for the top floor.
The escalator consists of an endless series of articulated steps, moving in a uniform, continuous motion from one landing to the next, along an inclined trajectory.
During movement, the stride surface remains horizontal.
