4. Linear Approach Using Crossed Graphs Classified by Accessibility Ranks for the Contaminant

This approach corresponds to the reality of the materials under consideration. The porous medium behaves like a network of interconnected pores, some of which are accessible (open) to the contaminant and others inaccessible or “closed” (isolated clusters in the graph).

Inaccessibility may depend on other parameters such as – for example – the infectivity or fluidity of the percolating substance.

The concept of accessibility to the contaminant is therefore relative; it may depend on the characteristics of the environment, its complexity, and its interaction with the infectious agent.

These variations can be simply observed in real-world cases and then used to model critical situations.

The network structure or graph representing the environment (or population) can be decomposed by ranking the nodes according to their order of accessibility to the infectious agent.
