Guarantee regulations were very useful during reconstruction after the Second World War. These regulations are still in force, and have been supplemented where necessary. If contracts are not respected, they provide the client with a guarantee of good performance.

These regulations are based on insurance contracts taken out by the builder and contractors for the benefit of the owner. These contracts come into effect after acceptance of the work. They include the "garantie de parfait achèvement" (guarantee of perfect completion), the "garantie biennale de bon fonctionnement" (biennial guarantee of good working order) and the "garantie décennale" (ten-year guarantee).
