New GTR developments
Dimensioning of road pavements

The Guide des terrassements des remblais et des couches de forme, commonly referred to as GTR, published in 1992 and again in 2000, has just been revised to bring it into line with the series of six European earthworks standards NF EN 16907- parts 1 to 6, which have now come into force. The new GTR has just been published in May 2023 by IDRRIM and CEREMA.

The main changes introduced by the new GTR concern the following points:

• updating the classification of soils, rocks and alternative materials, in accordance with standard NF EN 16907-2, while incorporating the specific features of French practice, such as the definition of water conditions, recommendations for re-use by soil class and by use, and the associated compaction tables;
