8. Cold mix asphalt
The term "cold mix" covers several types of bituminous mixes, all of which are made from aggregates and bitumen emulsion, mainly cold mixes and storable cold mixes.
Interest in cold technology grew in the 1990s for reasons of energy conservation and environmental protection.
8.1 Cold mix asphalt
These are the distant descendants of the American Slurry Seal, made of 0/3 or 0/5 sand and emulsion. Imported into France in the 1960s, they were quickly abandoned due to their inadequate roughness.
In 1978, a new product appeared in Germany, imported into France under the name "cold mix", capable of ensuring both impermeability and roughness, and which is now one of the techniques commonly used in pavement maintenance...
