The aim of the Deep Mixing Method (DMM) is to improve the characteristics of the soil in situ and at depth, by mixing the soil in place with a hydraulic binder to form a new material known as "soilmix". The binder is composed of one or more components (lime, cement, slag, fly ash, inert products, additives, etc.).

The DMM technique can be subdivided into two methods, depending on how the binder is incorporated into the mix in place.
