2. Green roof maintenance
A green roof must be maintained in order to maintain a plant cover rate of over 80%, ensure that the vegetation flourishes, and control the invasion of adventitious species (plants not originally intended). Access to the roof for maintenance operations must be provided by the project manager at the design stage, and the safety of personnel against falls from height must be ensured.
Maintenance of vegetated roofs must be provided for and formalized in a contract between the waterproofing contractor and the client, no later than acceptance of the work for reinforcement purposes. This maintenance contract must cover the entire roof, from waterproofing to vegetation, including sterile areas. The waterproofing contractor can subcontract or co-contract the maintenance work to a specialized company.
