1.1 Definition
According to ISO 8044:2020, corrosion is a physico-chemical interaction between a metallic material and its surrounding environment, resulting in changes in the properties of the metal and potentially leading to significant degradation of the function of the metal, the surrounding environment or the technical system of which they are part.
