Timber-frame house - Charpente

An essential element of any construction, the frame has undergone constant change over the years, with the know-how and inventiveness of master carpenters (a trade that began to emerge in the 13th century) fuelling work and reflection on the art of framing throughout history. Numerous architectural treatises bear witness to the evolution of techniques and morphologies, and deal with the mastery of volumes and the art of the line, as well as aspects related to the material wood, such as cutting and drying.
