Gas appliances must comply with the requirements of applicable European directives, in particular EEC Directive 90/396 on gas appliances. Appliances not falling within the scope of this directive must comply with :

• or to standards or, failing that, to specifications made mandatory by ministerial orders issued pursuant to the Decree of May 23, 1962;

• any other standard or national technical specification from a member state of the European Union or any other state party to the agreement establishing the European Economic Area recognized as equivalent by the minister responsible for gas safety;

• or, in the absence of the above, have received prior approval from the minister responsible for gas safety, in conjunction with the minister responsible for construction where applicable....
