In this first part, the French regulatory system is recalled with the main requirements for building fire safety.
Then, actions in case of fire are described, followed by the heat transfer to steel or composite structural elements.

In this first part, we review the French regulatory context and the main requirements for fire safety in buildings. This is followed by a discussion of the actions to be taken on structures in a fire situation, and then the determination of the heat rise of structural elements, whether steel or composite.
