After declining sharply until the early 19th century, France's woodland area has grown from 12 to 16 million hectares over the last fifty years. Today, it covers more than a quarter of the national territory, and represents a reservoir of 136 species of both deciduous and coniferous trees. This natural resource not only harbors a wealth of biodiversity, but also traps carbon in the air for centuries, re-oxygenating our environment.

Working to promote the use of wood in construction means working to ensure that forests are maintained and exploited sustainably, as attested by forest certification marks such as PEFC or FSC.
